Concordia University's Jurist-in-Residence, Morton S. Minc, invites you to the conference What Intellectual Property Can Do For You: Practical Tips for Individuals and Businesses presented by Me Nancy Cleman and Me Nicholas Bertram.

Our guests will give an an overview of five major kinds of Intellectual Property Rights:

  • Trade secrets
  • Copyright
  • Trademarks
  • Patents
  • Industrial Designs

They will also provide valuable tips such as:

  • How to build a solid foundations for IP rights
  • Confidentiality agreements and IP rights assignments
  • When to focus on intellectual property during the growth of a business
  • How to manage ownership issues of rights
  • How to streamline costs while maintaining their intellectual property rights
  • Strategies to manage digital assets and domain names

Students in the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science, lawyers, and the general public are invited to attend.

A Zoom link will be provided after registering on Eventbrite.

To participating lawyers: Training the eligibility of which has been confirmed by the Barreau du Québec for the purposes of mandatory continuing education, for a period of 1.5 hours.

Me Nancy Cleman

Me Nancy Cleman is responsible for the Intellectual Property group at Lapointe Rosenstein Marchand Melançon. She is a registered trademark agent and an accredited mediator (commercial). Me Cleman has extensive experience both nationally and internationally and provides legal advice to a variety of corporate and commercial clients, with a focus on intellectual property and information technology law. She is active in community work and sits on several boards and committees. Me Cleman regularly speaks and gives conferences on a variety of topics.

Me Nicholas Bertram

Me Nicholas Bertram is an intellectual property lawyer, patent agent and trademark agent. He has developed through his practice an expertise in patent procurement, more specifically with respect to chemical, mechanical and biotechnological subject matter. Me Bertram develops patent protection strategies tailored to the client’s business objectives. He works closely with clients to identify the key features of their technology that will be the subject of patent protection for purposes of enforcement and commercialization. He is also brought on to provide expertise in patent litigation matters.
