The Workshop Exercise: Learning to Write a Better Journal Article

As an academic or community-based researcher, you must be able to write well to be successful in publishing you work. If you can write a clear and understandable message for a specific scholarly audience, you are more likely to see your manuscript published. You can easily overcome some common reasons that manuscripts are rejected by observing the editorial process and improving the presentation of your content.

This full-day workshop will help you improve how you format and revise five components of a journal article: the title, the abstract, the introduction, the flow of argumentation and the conclusions. You will become more aware of your approach to writing and test out practical strategies for making a manuscript easier for your intended audience to read and understand. To get the most out of the day, bring a laptop and a willingness to actively engage in independent and small group activities. If you have a copy of an unpublished manuscript that you’d like to revise, bring that along. Excerpts from sample manuscripts will also be provided.
