Where

Gypsy moths are invasive insects that damage our trees. Southern Ontario and Quebec are currently in the midst of one of the worst Gypsy moth outbreaks in recorded history. The spotted Gypsy moth caterpillars eat the leaves of deciduous trees in the area, leaving the trees completely leafless for weeks at a time. Although this doesn't necessariy kill the trees right out, it does weaken them, making them more susceptible to other diseases and outbreaks. It could have particularly serious consequences for many of the ~200 young trees recently planted on the Loyola campus.

Gypsy moths have been found on campus but are not yet at peak levels. To limit the effects on our campus trees in the coming year, we invite the Concordia community to come out to Loyola, join Professor Emma Despland to learn more about these insects, and help us protect our trees by hunting down and destroying Gypsy moth egg clusters on campus.

The Concordia shuttle bus provides free transportation from the downtown campus to Loyola is free to all those with a valid Concordia ID card.

Masks and vaccination required.

This event is part of Campus Sustainability Month at Concordia, a month-long series of events, activities, and giveaways.
