Prevention first - everyday actions can make a difference

  • If you have flu-like symptoms, stay home and call the Quebec helpline: 1-877-644-4545.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds, including after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

Masks are not recommended if you are not sick. Masks should only be worn by people with symptoms to prevent the spread of the virus and by health care providers.
