Chancellor's Builder Honorary Life Membership

I wanted to help enhance this university’s reputation because Concordia deserves it.

A heartfelt connection to Concordia inspired Miriam Roland, LLD 18, long-time supporter, donor and member of the university’s Board of Governors, to make a generous $3-million gift in 2018 to establish the Miriam Aaron Roland Graduate Fellowships.

These cross-faculty, merit-based awards have encouraged dozens of doctoral students at the university, helped attract new talent to campus and broadened Concordia’s research imprint.

For service to Concordia and society, the university awarded an honorary doctorate to Miriam Roland in 2018.

As per her family’s ethos to give generously, Roland has established a number of community-oriented projects at Concordia over the years. These include a lecture series, bursaries in the Community Economic Development program, and endowments to fund special projects and students’ emergency needs. She was the driving force behind making a course in business ethics mandatory for all John Molson School of Business graduate students.

In 2018 she established a perpetual fund for graduate students in all four Concordia faculties.
