Sarah Briot-Arthur

2019-2020 Dean's List Award Winner — Building engineering

About Sarah

Sarah is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in building engineering to learn how to innovate technologies that balance human needs and the environment. Her passion for nature fuels her need for change and she believes that the latter starts with revamping the buildings we all call home. She is on the Dean’s list and is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society. Off campus, she spends most of her time outdoors, either camping, biking, playing hockey or skiing.

Her one piece of advice for peers...

Always keep the bigger picture in mind. Do not let a test define you. Let your understanding and what you will do with it define you.

Three keys to her academic success

  • Making a realistic schedule and sticking with it. A big part of my academic success has been time management and working hard towards completing the daily goals previously set.
  • Doing my best at truly understanding what I am being taught.
  • Of course, asking questions to peers, tutors and professors has been crucial. Nobody knows everything. Using the resources available around me has been useful on countless occasions.

Two study tips

  • Do not stress too much about the grade. Focus on your understanding. Read the book, do the assignments and ask questions, the grade will come eventually.
  • Find a balance between studying and other aspects of your life. It is better to study one hour efficiently than three hours inefficiently. Know when you are not being efficient and step back, replenish and come back motivated.

Sarah's next big goal

Finishing my bachelor’s degree and creating green buildings!
