His one piece of advice for peers...

Prioritize your well-being. Whether that means missing a day of school, dropping a class, or even switching programs, you have to do what is best for you. Your degree will be meaningless if you don’t put your health first.

Three keys to his academic success

  • Understand your mistakes. This will ensure that you’re less likely to repeat them. Understanding what not to do is sometimes more valuable than knowing what to do.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you’re ever uncertain about something, go to your professor’s office hours and ask them questions. They’ll be more than happy to help. Communicate with your TAs because they’re there to help you too.
  • Try not to panic. No good ever comes from panicking. It’s sometimes easier said than done but it is something you should strive for. When you panic, you rush, and this makes it impossible to think clearly. Remain calm and work through assignments, projects, and exams carefully and slowly.

Two study tips

  • Study a little bit everyday rather than cramming everything all at once. Acknowledge the existence of an exam two weeks before it is set to happen. Start preparing for it 10 days before. Doing so will allow you to tackle smaller amounts of content everyday. When you don’t give yourself enough time, you are setting yourself up for failure.
  • Start by studying the topics you find most difficult and work your way downwards. This ensures that you develop a grasp on the content you don’t understand.

Dante's next big goal
