Katharine O'Brien

Katharine O’Brien is a screenwriter and producer based in Toronto and Montréal. She works in television and digital content and has created projects optioned by Alibi Entertainment, She Said Films, Ceres Productions, and Four Corners Productions.

Her work has been funded by Bell Media and has been nominated for a Just For Laughs Award as well as a Hot Shots Award at the Inside Out Film Festival. Katharine also works as a visual artist and session musician.

Currently, she is completing a Master of Arts in Media Studies at Concordia University in Montréal. Her research interests include the growth of misinformation, the role of mass media, and the impacts of technology on journalism.

For her MA research-creation thesis, Katharine hopes to bring together her research foci, her background in film production, and her love of drawing and painting to create a multimedia project that uses personal stories to address immediate societal concerns and makes a meaningful contribution to Canadian media.
