For years, the humanities have been said to exist in a state of crisis. As the enrolments to literary studies keep falling and the budgets keep shrinking, one is forced to ask – how relevant is literature today? What is the role of writing in the age of existential climate anxiety, pandemic and war?

Join us as the One Love, Literary podcast returns with host Olga Tsygankova, a (Ukrainian) MA student in English, who will talk to one speaker about one author – and their journey together. This live podcast episode features Sina Queyras – Senior Lecturer and Professor of Creative Writing, award-winning writer, poet and literary scholar at Concordia English department. Together, they will discuss Sina's newly published book Rooms that “offers a peek into the defining spaces a young queer writer moved through as they found their way from a life of chaos to a life of the mind.” The book explores Sina’s relationship with Woolf’s creative legacy, especially the idea of “the room of one’s own” – set in motion by an early academic experience when a professor threw a chair at them after they had turned in their essay on Woolf.

Their book is “both an homage to and provocation of the idea of a room of one’s own at the centre of our idea of a literary life.”
