Making Things Happen That Matter: A conversation between Rebecca Duclos and Annie Gérin

With over 4,000 students, faculty, and staff, Concordia’s Faculty of Fine Arts is one of the largest comprehensive schools in North America to study pedagogical, conceptual, theoretical, and material practices across all the arts. Concordia's Fine Arts dean holds a key position in supporting the teaching, scholarship, production, and planning activity of nine departments while strengthening community partnerships and forging an international profile.

Concordia is thrilled to welcome a new leader into the deanship this summer. Annie Gérin, a beloved member of the Montreal arts community, a fearless intellectual, and the recent interim dean of the Faculté des arts at UQAM, will succeed Rebeca Duclos who soon finishes her five-year mandate. For the last five years, Duclos has led the Faculty in collaboratively developing a vision to firmly establish Concordia as an anchor institution in the local, national, and international cultural sphere.

Tune in as moderator, Maya Oppenheimer, engages with Duclos and Gérin in an unscripted reflection on the work undertaken in the Faculty so far and hear them ponder together what might emerge over the next five years. What pedagogical experiments and cultural partnerships can we expect in the future? How will the Faculty think through and implement unexpected solutions for new and pressing concerns? And how will Concordia Fine Arts continue to both lead and follow the urgent work of practitioners in Montréal’s arts sector?
