Concordia Undergraduate Art History Conference Finissage and EAHR Publication Launch

For the finissage of their 9th Annual Conference, the Concordia Undergraduate Journal of Art History (CUJAH) will be collaborating with the Ethnocultural Art Histories Research Student Group (EAHR) for an evening of celebration. Artists, scholars, students, and professionals will come together to discuss the ideas and themes presented throughout the conference, showcase the artwork produced during the conference, and launch the EAHR publication, Waterways: Asian Indigenous Relations in Contemporary Art.

The 9th Annual Concordia University Art History Conference, Place Listening: Exploring Material Narratives, happening from 10:30 a.m. on March 4th in the Jarislowsky Institute for Studies in Canadian Art, aims to discuss the dynamic relationships between materiality, architecture, overlapping historical narratives, and involuntary memory to open a discourse for reconciliation. Professional speakers include Nalini Mohabir, Elaine Speight, Sandra Brewster, Eunice Belidor, and Melissa Patel, with a vast range of research presented by students throughout as well. During the finissage, the public is invited to reflect on the presentations throughout the day, as well as engage with Melissa Patel’s paintings, and the outcome of the puppet making workshop taking place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m at the Jarislowsky Institute. 

Waterways: Asian Indigenous Relations in Contemporary Art was a collaboration between two student groups, the Ethnocultural Art Histories Research Group (EAHR) and Indigenous Art Research Group (IARG), that produced four exhibitions between the dates of June 1st and September 11th, 2019, in the main Webster Library vitrine, the courtyard of the FOFA Gallery, the Art History Department Vitrine, and the EV Junction atrium. Artists featured in the exhibitions included Jane Chang Mi, Stephanie Cheung, Beatrice Glow, Kari Noe, Dan Taulapapa McMullin, Henry Tsang, Jason Sikoak, and Léuli Eshrāghi. The publication produced for the aforementioned exhibitions will serve as an archival document and future research tool.
