Some argue that the Senate should be abolished. But not Senator James Cowan, who sees the Senate as serving as a more-than-useful chamber for sober second-thought. During this roundtable, Senator Cowan, Former Liberal Leader in the Senate, will walk participants through some of the ways in which the Senate can serve as an important tool for Canadian democracy and provide a necessary check on elected representatives of the day.
During this event, participants will hear about and discuss the ways in which the Senate can help both to put forth timely and meaningful legislation as well as strengthen policy changes and proposals from the House, serve as a forum for necessary discussion and evidence gathering, and represent all regions in Canada.
This small public deliberation forum will provide participants with the rare opportunity to deliberate and engage with one of the country's most well-known Senators about the utility and evolving role of the Senate in Canada today.
