Our services and collections

Our services and collections aim to respond to the expanding range of artistic practice, research-creation and digital humanities research by managing pivots between analogue pasts and digital futures.

VCR houses state-of-the-art viewing facilities for digital and analogue media and maintains and facilitates access to four distinct collections:

Meet the 2024 VCR curators-in-residence

VCR is pleased to host two Curators-in-Residence for 2024: Badewa Ajibade and Temple Marucci-Campbell.

For this program, the residents will curate a collection of films and images created by Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) filmmakers and artists.

Temple Marucci-Campbell

(MA Art History, Faculty of Fine Arts, Concordia University)

Temple Marucci-Campbell is an emerging scholar and writer completing her master's in Art History at Concordia University. Her research focuses on the sensorial and immaterial transmission of Afro-Caribbean histories through intersections of art and food. She engages with haptic aesthetics and theories of embodiment to engage with supposed gaps in art history. Her research grapples with seemingly invisible histories, and renders them palpable through anti-colonial and care praxis. Temple completed her BFA in Criticism and Curatorial Practices at OCAD University. Her recent curatorial work was in collaboration with Vtape and The Centre for the Study of Black Canadian Diaspora.

Badewa Ajibade

(MFA Studio Arts: Film Production, Faculty of Fine Arts, Concordia University)

Badewa Ajibade is a Nigerian filmmaker, film researcher and film curator based in Montréal, Canada. He is completing a MFA program where he embarked on interdisciplinary research in African Queerness and Loss from a historical, contemporary and personal perspective. Having studied at the Toronto Film School before making the jump into filmmaking, he has an extensive background in film production and post-production. As a film curator, he was worked for organizations such as Le FIFA (Festival International du Film sur l'Art) in Montréal, programming an African short film carte blanche at the 41st edition of the festival.
Badewa is focused on Afrocentric art, more specifically, the creation and exhibition of African stories inside and outside the African continent.
