Dr. Dajana Vuckovic is offering two scholarship opportunities for students applying for Concordia University’s PhD in Chemistry or Biochemistry program. The student’s research will focus on clinical metabolomics, with projects in the areas of inflammation and oxidative stress currently available. The student will join the vibrant Vuckovic group whose research intersects metabolomics, lipidomics, and biomarker validation, with the focus on improving the coverage of low abundance metabolome. The primary objectives of the research project are to (i) develop effective metabolomics/lipidomics strategies for the application and biological matrix of interest using liquid chromatography – mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and (ii) perform pathway analysis and validate findings with appropriate follow-up experiments. The student will gain hands-on expertise in bioanalytical chemistry, metabolomics/lipidomics, sample preparation, chromatography, high-resolution mass spectrometry, statistics/chemometrics/bioinformatics and/or method validation according to regulatory guidelines. The successful candidate will have various opportunities to present at national and international conferences and author manuscript(s) based on their research. Vuckovic group offers on-site state-of-the-art high resolution mass spectrometry facility and access/affiliation to mass spectrometry and other bioanalytical instrumentation in three leading Concordia research centres: Centre for Biological Applications of Mass Spectrometry, Centre for Structural and Functional Genomics and PERFORM Centre.
Selected candidates will receive minimum financial support in the amount of CAD$17,500 per annum (2 years for MSc students and 3 years for PhD students) generally comprising a research bursary of $10,000 and $7,500 in teaching assistantships and other support. Selected candidates will also be considered for merit-based entrance awards, as well as tuition fee remissions based on residency eligibility.
