WSSR Calendar

The Workshops on Social Science Research (WSSR) were established in 2008 with just one workshop and, over 12 years, grew to offer over 60 workshops all year round. The WSSR provide a diverse range of opportunities for discussion and the sharing of ideas, knowledge, and experiences with participants from a variety of different backgrounds, including students, staff members from think tanks and government offices, and members of both the private and not-for-profit sectors.

The main aim of the WSSR is to provide short-term intensive learning experiences all designed to give participants privileged access to high profile individuals, and an opportunity to develop new insights and cutting-edge perspectives. The program brings in major public figures and senior public servants with real, in-the-field experience, as well as influential academics with long-standing research and teaching track records and experience leading cutting-edge research projects.

Our workshops and various evening and lunch events cover a broad range of topics in the fields of Democratic Governance, Public Policy, Social Justice, Normative Considerations, Effective Writing and Communication, and both Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methodology. All our workshops and courses are designed to lead and guide students and participants through a variety of timely and pertinent topics with an overall emphasis on developing their capabilities to implement knowledge, network, make decisions, and problem-solve.

In 2020, for the first time, the WSSR collaborated with the Southern Political Science Association and hosted a series of half- and full-day workshops during their conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico:

Due to the situation with COVID-19 and the closure of the university, the WSSR had to postpone the Spring 2020 term of workshops.

Deliberating a Public Agenda for Election 2019

In celebration of the WSSR’s 10-year anniversary, under the theme of “Deliberating a Public Agenda for Election 2019”, Fall 2018 was the first of four programs designed to explore the many important topics and issues that we are facing as a society as we head into the 2019 Canadian Federal election.
Throughout the year, the WSSR expanded on this theme with a series of special workshops, public deliberation forums, and other focused activities all with the aim to inform and influence the development of a public agenda for Election 2019.
