Dr. Trevor Norris

Associate Professor, Brock University


Trevor Norris holds a PhD in Philosophy of Education from the University of Toronto and is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Brock University.

He holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Concordia University (1995), and has written several books about the relation between politics and education. His books include Consuming Schools: Commercialism and the End of Politics (2011), which examines the origins and nature of consumerism and its political and pedagogical implications. In 2016 Norris published Strong Democracy in Crisis: Promise or Peril (2016), based on the democratic theory of Benjamin Barber.

Norris is PI on a SSHRC which investigates the teaching and learning of philosophy in schools, which examines the role of philosophy in promoting critical thinking and democratic engagement. His current research explores what the rise of populism and the election of Trump says about the meaning of education in a democratic society.
