Dr. Brenda O’Neill is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Calgary and recent Visiting Fellow with the Australia National University. She served as Head of Department at the University of Calgary from 2012 to 2018. She currently serves as the English-language Co-editor of the Canadian Journal of Political Science.
She received her Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia, M.A.s from McMaster University (one in Economics and another in Public Policy and Administration), and a B.A. from Brock University.
Her research focusses broadly on the areas of political behaviour and public opinion, with a special interest in gender and politics and particular focus on Canada. She has authored and edited several books, including Social Capital and Gender with Elisabeth Gidengil (Routledge, 2006). Her research has appeared in numerous journals, including the Canadian Journal of Political Science, Ethnic and Racial Studies, the Journal of Women, Politics & Policy, Party Politics, and the International Political Science Review and as chapters in over 30 edited collections. Current research projects are focussed on the contemporary feminist movement in Canada and party leadership in Canada.
