Autour de Maïr - A Special Film about a Special Place

August 28, 2015
|

After a private screen last December at Concordia University, and a tour of the 2015 European film festivals, this documentary film by director Hejer Charf puts Concordia's downtown campus front and centre as it highlights the role of Concordia's Simone de Beauvoir Institute in raising the profile of Canadian and French feminist writers in mainstream French language literature to international acclaim. The film explores the contributions of Maïr Verthuy who co-founded the Institute in 1978 and opens with images of Education department associate professor and third principal of the Institute Arpi Hamalian talking about its its role as the first women's studies institute in Canada and North America. Read more about the film from Concordia News, and on Facebook. Screenings at Cinéma Quartier Latin on September 5 at 6:30pm and September 6 at noon.
