The competition challenges teams to design and build radio-controlled aircrafts. Two planes are being designed this year. The first is a passenger plane that carries both high-density cargo and dozens of low-density tennis balls; the second is a tightly packed heavy-lift plane that must drop a payload on a target. Power is regulated and teams need to develop strong yet lightweight and efficient airplanes. Not only is the performance of the aircraft taken into account, but a design report and presentation explaining the design are also factored into the competition judging.
