FACULTY, STAFF AND RETIREE GIVING
Build a stronger university from within
Concordia is home to 7,000 faculty and staff members who are dedicated to providing the best academic experience for our students.
The university is committed to innovation and excellence in education, research, and next-generation learning. As people who work here on a daily basis, you see first-hand the needs of our students. Giving to Concordia students not only allows you to see your gifts in action but also shows external donors that belief in our mission and in our students starts from within.
Faculty, staff and retiree giving, combined with support from alumni, parents, students and friends of the university, allows Concordia to offer unique services, educational opportunities, and helps equip our students with the tools they need to flourish long after they have left the classroom.
Support from the internal community shows pride in the university and can inspire others to follow your lead.
How to make your gift
One of the easiest ways for faculty and staff to give is through biweekly payroll deductions. It’s simple and each payment adds up to make a big impact. Payroll deductions will appear in the “donations” box of your Relevé 1 and T4 slips for the corresponding year.
If you are giving through payroll deducations and will soon be retiring, you can continue to make your contributions through monthly credit card donations.
You can also contribute online, by calling 514-848-2424, ext. 3884, or sending a cheque payable to Concordia University (1455 de Maisonneuve Boulevard West, FB 520, Montréal, Québec, H3G 1M8). An official donation receipt will be issued for any gift amount.
Your gift can be directed to any area of the university that is meaningful to you. There are many areas to support, so contact us for help matching your interest to a specific cause.
“I feel extremely fortunate to be part of a supportive community, which is why I give back, especially to support the students who are our main focus every day. I give via payroll deductions, to support a bursary created by my family in memory of my daughter, Laura — an easy and convenient way to give to a cause that is so close to my heart.”
— Cameron Tilson, Assistant Director, Office of Institutional Planning and Analysis
Volunteers from different areas of the university come together to raise money for the Community Campaign through several peer-to-peer fundraising efforts. Here are a few highlights:
- Concordia Shuffle: Every fall, this community inter-campus fundraising walkathon marks the launch of the Community Campaign. Since 1990, Shufflers have raised nearly $1.6 million for student scholarships and bursaries.
- Concordia Used Book Fair: This annual book fair engages teams from across Concordia, including Distribution and Transportation Services, Hospitality Concordia and Security. About 75 additional people volunteer, many of them students, staff and retirees from different areas within the university. In its 21 years, the Concordia Used Book Fair has raised more than $200,000 for students, while providing a new life for countless books..
- Born to Run: The Department of Exercise Science organizes this annual fundraising event in memory of their late colleague, David H. Jones. Proceeds are directed to the David H. Jones Memorial Scholarship in Athletic Therapy Endowment.
- Library Auction: Run by staff of the Concordia Library, funds raised from the auction support the Library Staff in Support of Students Bursary Endowment, the Centre for the Arts in Human Development, Multi-faith & Spirituality Centre, as well as other external organizations.
Volunteers and donors change students’ lives, build pride in our university and strengthen our community.
We recently launched the Campaign for Concordia. Next-Gen. Now, our most ambitious fundraising effort ever. To meet our goals, we need champions and advocates from all corners of our community. Every donation to the Community Campaign contributes to the broader Campaign for Concordia goal of $250 million.
A strong show of internal support is crucial to our success. Our internal volunteer network, complemented by an external network of alumni and friends, is comprised of leaders from across the university and former faculty and staff members whose generosity and dedication drive Concordia’s growth. Volunteers play a critical role by lending their expertise and experience to the campaign and their leadership sets a powerful example for others to follow.
