Dear FNAME,

I hope you are doing well and had a great holiday and start to 2022.

Pandemic obliged, while things are not quite back to normal yet, there’s a feeling of normalcy and that we are finally getting there.

League Recognition

2021 was a great year for the Concordia Stingers football program. We were able to get back on the field, compete, and continue to implement the processes, we as a staff, have put in place.

Although our season didn’t end the way we wanted it to, we nonetheless finished 3rd in the league, ahead of Sherbrooke Vert et Or and McGill Martlets. We turned some heads and gained some respect within the league.

The players were tremendous this year considering everything they had to deal with week in and week out. We even took home some hardware at RSEQ (provincial) and U Sports (national governing body) leagues:

QB Olivier Roy had a breakout year. He led in multiple passing categories in both leagues and was named:

  • RSEQ’s MVP award i.e. Jeff Russel trophy
  • RSEQ All-star team
  • U Sports 2nd team All-Canadian
  • U Sports Nomination for the most outstanding football player i.e. Hec Crighton award

Rookie WR Jaylan Greaves had phenomenal 1st year as a Stinger:

  • RSEQ Rookie of the Year
  • RSEQ All-star team
  • U Sports Rookie of the Year i.e. Gorman award
  • U Sports 1st team All-Canadian

Cornerback Ahmadou Boubacar:

  • RSEQ All-star team
  • U Sports 2nd team All-Canadian

Free safety Khadeem Pierre and halfback Derek Achaempong were named to the RSEQ All-Star team as well.

Defensive end Malick Sylvain, was awarded the RSEQ Leadership & Community involvement award for his dedicated work in the community. He recruited members of the team to help unload trucks and stock shelves for the Jamaica Association of Montreal. He also supports the Shoebox Project for Women, an organization that supports  women impacted by homelessness.

We also had a solid Fall semester in the classroom. We are proud to say that we passed 94% of credits taken and posted a team GPA of 2.71/4.33 and had 31 players with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. This past semester academics were the foundation of our program and we have put a lot of effort in making sure our players have the resources to achieve excellence in the classroom. It is paying off.

I am extremely proud of these young men and what they accomplished.

Giving Tuesday: Thank you

The 2021 Giving Tuesday campaign was a major success. We had a lofty goal of raising $100,000 for the program and thanks to the unbelievable generosity of our alumni and friends we were able to surpass that goal: $104,000 was raised for our student athletes.

All donations directly support the players and ensure they have a great experience at Concordia. Our alumni support is crucial to our success, we can not thank you enough for the contributions you have all made.

What’s Next?

We wish we could announce our fall schedule but unfortunately it has not been made public yet.

We do have the dates for Homecoming weekend however. Please save the date of September 17, we hope to see many of you that weekend. We will announce the schedule of events soon.
