Quebec residency: Situation 6

Renting, owning, or sharing a residence and corresponding documents to submit with your residency application.

If you rent

Submit the following:

  1. Your Quebec Permanent Code
  2. A sworn statement that you were not a full time student for an entire year during the 18 months prior to this semester.  You can print out a PDF version of this sworn statement, complete it, and have it witnessed by a commissioner of oaths at the Birks Student Services Centre.
  3. A complete signed legible copy of your lease(s) covering the 12 months during which you lived in Quebec.
  4. Two different pieces of official correspondence addressed to you, proving the receipt of mail during the 12-months at the address indicated on the lease.  These documents are acceptable:
    • public service invoices
    • driver’s license
    • official correspondence from a municipal, provincial or federal government
    • official correspondence from a financial institution
    • correspondence from an educational institution

If you lived at more than one address during the year then you must submit a copy of each lease and one item of correspondence mailed to each address.
 

If you own

Submit the following:

  1. Your Quebec Permanent Code
  2. A sworn statement that you were not a full time student for an entire year during the 18 months prior to this semester.  You can print out a PDF version of this sworn statement, complete it, and have it witnessed by a commissioner of oaths at the Birks Student Services Centre.
  3. Copies of Municipal Tax or School Tax assessments covering the 12 months during which you lived in Quebec.
  4. Two different pieces of official correspondence addressed to you, proving the receipt of mail during the 12-months at the address indicated on the lease.  These documents are acceptable:
    • public service invoices
    • driver’s license
    • official correspondence from a municipal, provincial or federal government
    • official correspondence from a financial institution
    • correspondence from an educational institution
 

If you share lodgings with someone else

Submit the following:

  1. Your Quebec Permanent Code
  2. A sworn statement that you were not a full time student for an entire year during the 18 months prior to this semester.  You can print out a PDF version of this sworn statement, complete it, and have it witnessed by a commissioner of oaths at the Birks Student Services Centre.
  3. The lease or Municipal/School tax assessment of the person with whom you lived during the 12 months period in Quebec.
  4. An official letter from the owner of the property confirming the dates when you lived at that property. A letter from your roommate is not acceptable.
  5. Two different pieces of official correspondence addressed to you, proving the receipt of mail during the 12-months at the address indicated on the lease or Municipal/School tax assessment. These documents are acceptable:
    • public service invoices
    • driver’s license
    • official correspondence from a municipal, provincial or federal government
    • official correspondence from a financial institution
    • correspondence from an educational institution
