THE SHIFT LEARNING COMMUNITY

Advancing social transformation through sharing and exchange

The SHIFT Learning Community is composed of diverse individuals from across Concordia and greater Montreal who:

  • Drive work within their neighbourhood, community, or institution towards justice, equity, and sustainability;
  • Want to learn from others about how to increase the socially transformative impact of their work;
  • Want to contribute to collective learning about how community-scale initiatives can bring about systems-level change.

All members of project teams that receive funding from SHIFT are invited to join the SHIFT Learning Community.

SHIFT regularly hosts networking, relationship-building and skill-sharing events for members of the Learning Community to connect.

Horizons Learning Journey

A new six-part workshop series for Learning Community members

Program launch: January 2022

What to expect

  • Six monthly workshops featuring:
    • Accessible introduction to a key concept or approach in systems transformation
    • Real-life perspectives from a community leader whose initiative applies this approach to transforming an unjust, inequitable or unsustainable social system
    • Peer support to challenge, highlight, integrate or expand the potential of this approach within your own work
  • Monthly exchanges with a learning partner to share in your journey, hold you accountable to the goals you set for yourself, and listen to the challenges you experience;
  • Reading and reflection exercises to deepen your understanding and integration of the knowledge and wisdom that you access within your own work and community;
  • A supportive community committed to non-judgmental listening, the wisdom of lived experience and diversity.

Your commitment

  • Attend a series of six workshops (two hours monthly) between January and June 2022. Please note, a second edition of this workshop series is planned for Fall 2022.
  • Complete complementary preparatory work (reading and reflection) before each session.
  • Engage in a learning partnership with another participant (approximately one touchpoint per month, schedules based on your availability).

Estimated total time commitment: six hours per month
