Russell Copeman was appointed Associate Vice-President, Government Relations in October 2008. In June 2011, his title was modified to Associate Vice-President, External Relations to reflect a broader mandate including government relations. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Political Science, teaching Quebec Public Administration. Russell holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Honours Political Science from McGill University and did graduate studies in Public Policy and Public Administration at Concordia. He was a member of Premier Robert Bourassa’s staff until his election to the National Assembly of Québec in 1994 as the Member for Notre-Dame-de-Grâce.
During his fourteen year tenure in the National Assembly he served in various capacities including as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health and Social Services and as the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs.
Active in the community, Russell has been involved in a number of community organizations. He was the Founding Chairman of the Montreal Oral School for the Deaf Foundation, sat on the Board of the N.D.G. Community Council and was a student member of the Board of Governors of Vanier College. He was named Chairman of the Comité nationale d’éthique sur le vieillissement et les changements démographiques of the Ministère de la Famille et des Ainés du Québec in May 2009, is a member of the Comité directeur of the Institut nationale de la recherche scientifique’s “Histoire de Montreal” project and is the Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Montreal Oral School for the Deaf.
Russell is married and is the father of three children.
