Concordia Indigenous Graduate Awards

The Concordia Indigenous Graduate Awards is open to First Nations, Inuit and Métis students. Candidates must be registered full-time in a Master’s or Doctoral program at Concordia. Graduate Diplomas are not applicable.

Your application will be considered for all the scholarships and awards.


Available Scholarships and Awards

  • Concordia Student Support Graduate Scholarship

        There is one (1) scholarship available in the amount of $5,000.

  • Sarah Anne and Henry John Hemens Graduate Scholarship to Advance Indigenous Women

        There is one (1) scholarship available in the amount of $10,000.

  • University Secretariat Indigenous Graduate Student Award

        There is one (1) scholarship available in the amount of $5,000.


The scholarships and awards are awarded on the basis of academic excellence and research potential taking into consideration the following:

  • Statement of purpose that demonstrates a clear research project: research goals, research questions, timeline, methods, contribution to the field, potential outcomes and how the funds will support research realization
  • All University transcripts
  • C.V. with relevant experience
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Proof of Indigenous identity is required



The awards are tenable within the first two years of a Master’s program or the first four years of a Doctoral program and it is renewable through competition within the limits of the terms of tenure.



The scholarship will be adjudicated by a committee from within the Indigenous Direction Leadership Council. Priority will be given to Indigenous focused research. The scholarship will be administered by the Graduate Awards office.
