Recruiting Concordia's Future Students

Committee Overview

The purpose of this working group was to define University Recruitment Planning strategies leading to a comprehensive recruitment plan integrated with all relevant functions throughout the University, and to devise the appropriate organizational framework.

Based on the current student environment at Concordia, the members of the Committee raised key questions with respect to branding, including: whether Concordia should promote the institution as a whole and/or market a select number of programs; how we should segment the various local, national and international markets; and how we can prioritize the markets where Concordia’s strongest recruitment efforts will be focused.

Building an applicant pool and overseeing relationship management with promising applicants at every stage are key recruitment functions and were looked at in detail. The further stages of students’ experience within the institution (from admissions, acceptance, advising, registration, financial support and awards, and services through to career placement) were also assessed in terms of how these could be optimized, keeping in mind that a chain is as strong as its weakest link. A strong value proposition that incorporates a clear understanding of what services and processes are of value to the student will ultimately lead to satisfied alumni, who in turn will act as the best ambassadors for the institution.
