What happens at Gown Distribution?

Account Check
Your account balance will be verified. If your account has an outstanding fee, you will be asked to pay it before proceeding. For information on clearing your account, see Student Account. You cannot attend your Convocation ceremony or receive your diploma if you owe money to the University.

Registration
If your account is clear, your graduation approval will be verified. If the “Degree Conferred” message does not appear on your transcript, you will not be able to attend Convocation.

Marshalling Card
You will receive your personal marshalling card and ceremony information.

Gowns and Hoods
If your degree is a Bachelor/Baccalaureate, Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, or a Master/Magisteriate, you will pick up your gown and hood.
(How to wear your gown and hood)

If your degree is a Doctor/Doctorate, you will reserve a gown. You will receive your gown at Place des Arts before the ceremony and you will be hooded on stage. Note that at Gown Distribution you will receive your marshalling card and you will have the opportunity to have your photograph taken wearing a PhD gown.

Photographs
A photographer will be on site to take graduation pictures. There will also be opportunities to have your picture taken at the Convocation ceremony. For more information, see Photographs.

What if I cannot attend Gown Distribution?

If you cannot attend Gown Distribution, you can ask someone else to pick up your marshalling card and gown. That person will require written authorization from you, listing your student ID number and type of degree (e.g., BA - Major History).

Please ensure that you have checked your graduation approval and that your fees have been paid.

When do I return my gown and hood?

Your gown and hood must be returned backstage after the ceremony before you leave Place des Arts.

If you do not return your gown and hood, the gown supplier will bill you for the full value of the gown and hood. In addition, you will not be eligible to receive transcripts from the University until the gown and hood are returned or their full replacement cost has been paid.

Please note that the convocation ceremonies may be taped, filmed, webcast or broadcast. Ceremony dates and times are subject to change without notice.
