PERFORM Colloquium: Quantitative ultrasound imaging technologies for diagnosis of cellular and whole organ pathologies

Dr. Cloutier will summarize his achievements made in the field of quantitative ultrasound imaging. A brief historical perspective of the field will be presented followed by recent accomplishments in Doppler ultrasound, backscatter coefficient and speckle statistics modeling, shear wave elastography, and natural pulsation carotid elastography. Two recent clinical reports on carotid elastography for stroke prevention will be presented. His talk will be concluded by on-going projects on ultrafast ultrasound imaging and new generation modes for shear wave elasticity imaging.

Speaker Bio:

G. Cloutier is Director of the Laboratory of Biorheology and Medical Ultrasonics at the University of Montreal Hospital Research Center (www.lbum-crchum.com), Professor in the Department of Radiology, Radio-oncology and Nuclear Medicine, and Member of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Montreal. His research interests are in quantitative ultrasound imaging of red blood cell aggregation, liver, tendon and vascular diseases; quasi-static and dynamic ultrasound elastography of atherosclerotic plaques, vascular aneurysms, deep vein thrombi, breast cancers and liver steatosis; development of multi-physics imaging methods; and biomechanical modeling.
