Spanish - Expression and Culture

The programs in Spanish are designed to give students ample knowledge of the language, spoken and written, as well as a coherent overview of Spanish culture, tradition, history and literature.

Specialization in Spanish ( Expression and Culture) — 60 credits

An extended version of the Major, students have the opportunity to focus their program on Spanish language and culture.

Major in Spanish (Option B: Expression and Culture) — 42 credits

Option B: Expression and Culture explores and puts into practice the techniques and structures of different modes of expression in Hispanic cultures.

All students with a background in the language must contact the Department to arrange to take the appropriate language placement test. The Department reserves the right to transfer a student to a higher-level language course if it is deemed that the course for which the student has registered is not appropriate for the extent of his or her knowledge of the language.

Many students come to the Department with varying degrees of former studies in the language in which they intend to specialize. Our programs are structured according to the capacities and needs of the individual. Language and translation courses provide a sound linguistic foundation.
