The Honours and Major programs in Italian are designed to give students ample knowledge of the language, spoken and written, as well as a coherent overview of Italian culture, tradition, history and literature.
Honours in Italian — 60 credits
Designed for students who intend to continue their studies at the graduate level.
Major in Italian — 42 credits
Gives students ample knowledge of the language, spoken and written, and a coherent overview of Italian culture, tradition, history and literature. Flexibility within the program allows students to study language, translation, culture and/or literature.
Minor in Italian — 30 credits
Designed for students already enrolled in a program at Concordia University.
All students with a background in the language must contact the Department to arrange to take the appropriate language placement test. The Department reserves the right to transfer a student to a higher-level language course if it is deemed that the course for which the student has registered is not appropriate for the extent of his or her knowledge of the language.

Many students come to the Department with varying degrees of former studies in the language in which they intend to specialize. Our programs are structured according to the capacities and needs of the individual. Language and translation courses provide a sound linguistic foundation.
