Admission Requirements for Theatre Performance

Program Type

Quota Program — Entry is competitive and selective, and the number of qualified applicants may exceed the number of places available. Applicants who meet the stated minimum requirements are not guaranteed admission to these programs. Closing dates for applications are stringently applied.

Audition / Interview Booking Deadline: March 1

(Late applications will continue to be accepted for certain programs for an undetermined amount of time. Please see program availability for the fall.)

It is the applicant's responsibility to book their audition/interview online before March 1.

Letter of Intent and Photograph

All applicants to a Major or Specialization in Theatre must submit a letter of intent and a small photograph of him/herself electronically to the Department at the time of booking the interview/audition.

Audition

  • Applicants must prepare and perform a monologue. A selection of monologues is available at theatre.concordia.ca
  • A 45 minute interview/discussion is followed by a one hour group audition in workshop style format. "Callbacks" are held the same weekend as the audition and usually run all day. Applicants are asked to do an improvisation in a workshop format.

Minimum Cut-off Averages

(Minimum Cut-off Averages should be used as indicators. Data may change depending on the quality of the application pool.)

  • Quebec Cegep (CRC): DEC
  • Canadian High Schools: 65% or C+
  • External Transfers: C
  • International Bacc. (IB): A minimum total of 27 points. Admission to competitive programs is based on strong portfolio/auditions and, normally, above-average grades.

Admission to most programs is based on portfolio/audition evaluations as well as academic grades. Applicants selected for admission have normally achieved grades that exceed minimum requirements.
