Admission Requirements for Music

Program Type

Quota Program — Entry is competitive and selective, and the number of qualified applicants may exceed the number of places available. Applicants who meet the stated minimum requirements are not guaranteed admission to these programs. Closing dates for applications are stringently applied.

It is the applicant's responsibility to complete the online theory test and to upload their audition video before March 1. Visit music.concordia.ca for more information.

Booking Deadline:  March 1

(Late applications will continue to be accepted for certain programs for an undetermined amount of time. Please see program availability for the fall.)
Applicants must apply online at Connect2.Concordia.ca before completing the online theory test and submitting their audition video.

Audition Video

Applicants should play two pieces, each two to three minutes long in contrasting styles. Contrasting means from different periods or styles of music; or, if chosen from within the same period or style of music (such as 20th c. or in Jazz genre), musically contrasting in tempo, texture etc. If a piece requires accompaniment, applicants must arrange to have an accompanist. Applicants to the Minor in Music are not required to submit an audition video but must write the theory and ear-training tests.

Theory/Ear-Training Tests

All applicants are required to write theory/ear-training placement tests to demonstrate solid knowledge of music fundamentals. Exemptions from some courses may be granted based on the results of the test. Visit music.concordia.ca for more information.

Minimum Cut-off Averages

(Minimum Cut-off Averages should be used as indicators. Data may change depending on the quality of the application pool.)

  • Quebec Cegep (CRC): DEC
  • Canadian High Schools: 65% or C+
  • External Transfers: C
  • International Bacc. (IB): A minimum total of 27 points. Admission to competitive programs is based on strong portfolio/auditions and, normally, above-average grades.

Admission to most programs is based on portfolio/audition evaluations as well as academic grades. Applicants selected for admission have normally achieved grades that exceed minimum requirements.
