Quota Program — Entry is competitive and selective, and the number of qualified applicants may exceed the number of places available. Applicants who meet the stated minimum requirements are not guaranteed admission to these programs. Closing dates for applications are stringently applied.

  • Specialization, Admission is to the major. Students may apply to transfer to the specialization after completing the second year of studies (60 credits including ARTE 220, 230, 320, 330).

No specific profile required. However, following an arts profile may help applicants build a successful portfolio.

Additional Requirements

Applicants must submit the following directly to the Department of Art Education:

  • portfolio
  • letter of intent
  • photocopy of most recent academic record(s)

Portfolio Submission Deadline:  March 1

(Late applications will continue to be accepted for certain programs for an undetermined amount of time. Please see program availability for the fall.)

Applicants must apply for admission online at Connect2.Concordia.ca before submitting a portfolio.

Additional Requirements for Art Education - Visual Arts

The Portfolio should:

  • consist of approximately 20 pieces of personally conceived 2D and 3D work of an imaginative and visually explorative nature;
  • demonstrate both technical skills and conceptual development;
  • be numbered and labeled individually with the applicant's name, title of the work, date of completion, size of work and medium(s) used;
  • include a summary list of contents indicating the applicant's name, title of the work, date of completion, size of work and medium(s) used;
  • clearly define the applicant's role in the case of collective or collaborative projects;
  • be presented in a sturdy folder with works flat and unframed, and with 3D or large works (over 20" x 24") presented as photographs or digital images.

The Letter of Intent must:

  • describe the applicant’s reasons for applying to the Art Education program;
  • outline the applicant’s academic background and any relevant professional and/or volunteer experience;
  • explain what the applicant hopes to learn over the course of their undergraduate degree.

Portfolio Retrieval

  • Applicants must make arrangements to ensure the return of their portfolio at their own expense by August 31.
  • Mailed portfolios must include a self-addressed stamped envelope or a prepaid courier invoice which fully covers the cost for return.
  • Applicants may pick up their portfolios at the Department once they have received their official response from the University. The Department reserves the right to discard any portfolios not picked up by August 31.

Minimum Cut-off Averages

(Minimum Cut-off Averages should be used as indicators. Data may change depending on the quality of the application pool.)

  • Quebec Cegep (CRC): DEC
  • Canadian High Schools: 65% or C+
  • External Transfers: C
  • International Bacc. (IB): A minimum total of 27 points. Admission to competitive programs is based on strong portfolio/auditions and, normally, above-average grades.

Admission to most programs is based on portfolio/audition evaluations as well as academic grades. Applicants selected for admission have normally achieved grades that exceed minimum requirements.
