Admission Requirements for Creative Writing
Limited Enrolment Program — The number of applications does not normally significantly exceed the number of places available. An entrance standard is set and admission is granted on an ongoing basis. Once capacity is reached, no more students can be admitted to the program. Departmental recommendation needed.
Applicants required to take an English language proficiency test must obtain a minimum TOEFL iBT (Internet-based test) score of 100, with a score of at least 22 in the writing component.

Additional Requirements
- Letter of intent
The letter should outline the applicant’s goals for study in creative writing, and a response to one or more literary works that have shaped him/her. The letter of intent must be submitted directly to the English Department. (See the website for format details.)
- Portfolio of personal work
Applicants must submit a portfolio of a maximum of 15 pages of their best writing in poetry, drama and/or fiction (short stories or novel excerpts). The portfolio must be accompanied by a brief letter of intent (1–2 pages) addressed to the Coordinator of Creative Writing and written with attention to spelling and grammar. Minimum Cut-off Averages

- Canadian High Schools: The Faculty of Arts and Science prefers students for these programs to have a 70% average and above, however, based on space availability, students below this average may still be considered. Admission is not guaranteed.
