Journalism

Are you curious about current affairs? Are you intrigued by the news? The Department of Journalism combines theory and practice in helping students to become knowledgeable and versatile journalists in print, radio, television and online media. Production workshops emphasize real-life assignments and newsroom standards are universally applied. Lectures and seminars analyze the social and political contexts in which journalism is practised.

• Specialization in Journalism/Textual — 60 credits
  This program provides a solid foundation in all journalistic formats, but places a heavier emphasis on producing text for publication in newspapers, magazines or online.

• Specialization in Journalism/Audiovisual — 60 credits
  This program provides a solid foundation in all journalistic formats, but places a heavier emphasis on producing audiovisual content for broadcast media, including radio, television and online sites.

• Specialization in Journalism/Multi-Platform — 72 credits
  This is a comprehensive program in multi platform journalism, covering the range of media platforms, giving students both media specific skills as well as the ability to tell stories in a multi media news environment.

• Major in Journalism — 45 credits
  Available to students with either a declared major or minor in another subject, this program provides students with an introduction to all aspects of journalism, then asks students to choose either a textual or audiovisual option in years two and three.
