New GM elevators are faster and more reliable

Year-long project wraps up

The four elevators in the Guy-Metro Building have been replaced.

The project that began just one year ago involved the installation of new machinery to operate the elevator doors, as well as display screens on each floor indicating the current location of each cabin — and whether they’re in service.

Visually-impaired members of our community will have noticed the new recorded voice that announces the current floor, as well as the direction of the cabin, in both English and French.

Waiting times should be reduced considerably because the new machinery is faster and more reliable.

While a few finishing touches remain, Facilities Management doesn’t expect to have to limit service in any of the elevators.

As always, do not hesitate to call the Service Centre at 514-848-2424, ext. 2400, with any questions or concerns.
