May 17 to 19 - New Sounds 2013: International Symposium on the Acquisition of Second Language Speech

Researchers and teachers from all over the world are invited to attend

This three-day event will provide a meeting place for practitioners (language teachers, speech pathologists, materials designers) and theoretical and applied linguists to discuss issues concerning the acquisition of second/foreign language pronunciation.

Conference attendees will explore such questions as:
•    What are the effects of technology on the learning and teaching of second language pronunciation?
•    How can instruction help speakers improve their ability to communicate effectively in a second language?
•    How can language learning theory inform second language pronunciation teaching?

Keynote speakers:
•    Dr. John Archibald (University of Victoria, Canada)
•    Dr. Debra Hardison (Michigan State University, USA)
•    Dr. Murray Munro (Simon Fraser University, Canada)

Established in 1990, this highly-renowned academic event has never been held in North America. The Faculty of Arts and Science and the Department of Education are pleased to bring this exciting event to Concordia University, hosting the first edition of New Sounds in Canada and North America.
