Bestselling Italian writer Gianrico Carofiglio, a former anti-Mafia judge in Bar, is considered one of the major specialists in investigation techniques referring to the organized crime. Carofiglio published his first novel Testimone inconsapevole (Involuntary Witness) in 2002, introducing a defense lawyer as the main character, Guido Guerrieri. Since then, he published numerous other works: The Past is a Foreign Country, (Il passato è una terra straniera 2004), A Walk in the Dark (Ad Occhi Chiusi 2006), Reasonable Doubts (Ragionevoli dubbi 2007), and Temporary Perfections (Le perfezioni provvisorie 2011).
