Local musician and part-time music instructor at Concordia Gary Schwartz and 11 other musicians have been performing LETTINGO: The music and influence of Ornette Coleman since 2010. LETTINGO is a tribute to jazz man Ornette Coleman, who received the Miles Davis Award at the Montreal International Jazz Festival in 2009.
At this year’s Prix Opus gala, the performance earned the top prize in the Concert of the Year – Jazz, World Music category. It was also nominated in the overall Concert of the Year category.
Schwartz and his group are back for an encore, a treat for any jazz fan.
