Join Emiel Heijnen, international artist and art/media instructor, as he speaks about an effervescent sphere of interdisciplinary creative networks in a lecture titled Remix Culture - Education at the intersection of popular culture, art and media-activism
The same way the web 2.0 has brought a new way to interact with the internet, allowing the user to not only visit but also participate in what he/ she sees on the net; the notion of Remix Culture brings a platform where the public is free to add, change, influence and interact with their culture. In other words, it’s taking something that was to make something that wasn’t; making culture richer and more inclusive.
Artists, amateurs and activists produce, share, sample and remix audiovisual culture; learn how an arts curriculum that is open to these new modes of learning is capable of keeping pace with the rise of participatory cultures and is less at risk of losing meaning to students.
When: Monday February 27, 2012 at 5:30 p.m.
Where: York Amphitheatre, Room EV-1.615, Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex (1515 Ste-Catherine St. W.), Sir George Williams Campus
The following day, participants will propose concepts for a smArtmob intervention: an interactive visual intervention in virtual and/or public space. These production groups will follow the ‘rules’ of the chosen intervention, and may alter the original idea by choosing a creative approach or innovative materials and techniques.
Make the work, critically discuss and evaluate.
