Honorary degree nominations sought

University community encouraged to submit nominations

Nominations for potential honorary degree recipients are currently being sought by the Honorary Degree and Convocation Committee (HDCC), a joint Board and Senate committee. All nominations are screened by the HDCC and approved by the Board of Governors, upon recommendation of Senate.

Candidates must meet several criteria to be considered. For example, nominees must have sufficient stature and recognition to ensure that the awarding of an honorary degree upholds the values that lead to the advancement of learning, and to the pursuit of greater knowledge.

Current members of the Board of Governors and their family members, as well as current members of the university community, are ineligible.

Those wishing to submit a nomination should consult the Guidelines for the Awarding of Honorary Degrees.

Nominators must complete and sign the Honorary Degree Nomination Form. While nominations are welcome throughout the year, please note that nominations must be received no later than March 18, 2013, to allow their consideration by HDCC in the spring.

Submit nominations to: Danielle Tessier, HDCC Secretary, 1550 De Maisonneuve Blvd. W., Room GM 801-23, or via email attachment to Danielle.Tessier@concordia.ca.

Recent recipients of honorary degrees from Concordia include renowned social activists Craig and Marc Kielburger, Canada’s senior citizenship judge George Springate, Canada’s Commissioner of Official Languages Graham Fraser, current president and CEO of TELUS and Concordia alumnus Darren Entwistle, retired general and former ambassador to the United States John de Chastelain, African filmmaking pioneer Gaston Kaboré, and Aldo Bensadoun, founder and executive chairman of the ALDO Group.
