It's fine outside the yellow line

Smokers urged to respect nine-metre perimeter around main entrances to public buildings

The yellow lines near main building entrances have been repainted. These lines delineate the no-smoking area that is defined by the Government of Quebec.

The provincial legislation that forbids smoking fewer than nine metres from the main entrance of a public building came into effect on January 1, 2006.

At Concordia, the policy is enforced by the Environmental Health and Safety Office, Facilities Management, and the Security Department.

Pat Pietromonaco, property/operations manager in Facilities Management, says "The yellow lines and signage at main entrances outlining the smoke-free perimeter are maintained yearly to notify and remind our community members of the legislation and encourage them to act responsibly."
