Problematic Sophos Anti-Virus update

Yesterday afternoon, Sophos Anti-Virus released an update that is generating ‘false positive’ notices for Windows users.

This means that the Sophos software is flagging normal programs as though they are either a virus, or infected with a virus. A popup will appear from your taskbar, stating that Sophos has quarantined the following ‘Shh/Updater-B’.  In reality, these programs are not infected with a virus. Sophos is working hard to correct this problem, and has released an apology to their user community for the disruption.

IITS will be releasing an update this morning to resolve this issue and no action is required on your behalf. If you are still receiving the ‘Shh/Updater’ Sophos message by this afternoon, you will need to contact the IITS Service Desk. Please note that it is advised that users do not delete the files that are quarantined, as this will result in the programs no longer functioning.

Due to a high call volume, the quickest method would be to email them at help@concordia.ca. However, you may still call them at (514) 848-2424 ext. 7613. You will need to provide the following information:

  • Full name
  • Phone number
  • Department
  • Building/Room #
  • IP address
