New phase of escalator project begins

Access to upper floors of Henry F. Hall Building affected, use of Mackay entrance encouraged

The second phase of the project to replace 17 escalators in the Henry F. Hall Building is nearing completion. The temporary walls on floors six through eight are coming down at the end of this month and the architectural work installing the finished walls will be completed by mid-March.

The upcoming phase then begins with the installation of temporary walls from the west side of lobby to the fifth floor during the last week of February. The temporary walls ensure the safety of building occupants and help keep noise and dust down.

The phase will last 8 months, until September 2012. While the escalator on the west side of the lobby is installed, access to the Mezzanine from the lobby is limited to the stairs and east escalator, installed last September. Access to the elevators from the lobby will remain, but note: Priority is given to persons with mobility impairments.

Occupants of the Henry F. Hall Building are encouraged to use the Mackay Street entrance to the building to avoid climbing a set of stairs or taking an escalator from the lobby.

At all times, individuals with mobility impairments get priority access to elevators. The able-bodied are expected to step off the elevator to allow entry of the individual in question.
