Measures are being taken to remind the community of the nine-meter non-smoking perimeter required by law around all entrances on campus. Concordia’s Environmental Health and Safety Office, Facilities Management, and Security remind smokers to remain outside of the yellow lines.

“The perimeters are in effect already, but we want members of the Concordia community to be aware of the boundaries and to smoke outside the designated perimeters,” says Pat Pietromonaco, Property/Operations Manager in Facilities Management.
The yellow lines delineating the nine-metre area around entrances to schools are refreshed yearly. As well, additional signage will be added at building locations where lines cannot be painted, and all ashtrays currently located near doors will be moved outside the nine-meter perimeter.
A bookmark or printed flyer that explains the rules regarding smoking on campus is being prepared and will be distributed to Concordia students, staff, and faculty over the coming months.
The provincial legislation banning smoking on all school property, including universities, came into effect January 1, 2006.
