Following approval at the meeting of Faculty Council of Art and Science on January 20, four new Faculty research centres have been established.
Centre for Clinical Research in Health (CCRH)
Housed within the Department of Psychology, the CCRH is devoted to the study of the psychosocial determinants of physical and mental health with particular attention to research on the causation, prevention, and treatment of physical and mental health problems. The centre’s membership includes five core members, eight full- and part-time researchers and more than 40 undergraduate and graduate trainees.
Centre for Microscopy at Concordia (CMAC)
Seven high-performance microscopes, along with image analysis and computer support for the microscopes, are the highlight of CMAC, which promotes interdisciplinary research using state-of-the-art facilities to train undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows. Current research activities include: metabolic engineering of pharmaceuticals; molecular mechanisms of aging; learning and memory; and autism spectrum disorders.
Centre for Sensory Studies (CSS)
The CSS is an interdisciplinary collaboration platform for research in social life and history of the senses, perceptual practice, multi-sensory aesthetics, and the development of technologies for extending the sensorium in innovative ways. The main goal of the CSS is to foster interdisciplinary study of sensory perception, aesthetics, marketing and communication. The centre has six members from the Faculty of Arts and Science and six from the other Faculties: the John Molson School of Business, and the Faculties of Fine Arts and of Engineering and Computer Science.
Centre for Iranian Studies
The Centre for Iranian Studies seeks to enhance collaborative research and graduate training opportunities in the broad field of Iranian Studies. The Iranian Studies group unites members from the Departments of Religion, Sociology and Anthropology, and Classics, Modern Languages and Linguistics.
These new centres will be profiled in NOW in the coming weeks. Watch the What We Do section in NOW.
