Energy conservation measures for the holiday period

Non-essential systems to be turned off while the university is closed

In an effort to reduce unnecessary expenses, energy conservation measures will take effect from Saturday, December 24, 2011, until Monday, January 2, 2012 inclusively.

All ventilation systems that are not absolutely essential will be turned off, with certain exceptions:

  • In the Henry F. Hall Building, the ventilation systems will operate as per the normal weekend schedule, and will be turned off December 25 and January 1.
  • In buildings that are self-responsive in terms of energy savings, they will automatically adapt to client occupation. These buildings are the Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex (EV Building), The John Molson School of Business (MB) Building, the PERFORM Centre and the Centre for Structural and Functional Genomics.
  • In the Guy-Metro (GM) Building, the Faubourg (FB) Building and in some rental properties, continued normal commercial operations dictate less restrictive energy conservation measures.

Temperatures will be set back, except in the Richard J. Renaud Science Complex (SP Building) because laboratory experiments would be adversely affected.

All unnecessary lighting will be turned off.

For questions, concerns and suggestions about the above measures, contact Stéphan Drolet at 514-848-2424, ext. 3781, or at drolet@alcor.concordia.ca.

Before leaving for the long holiday, be sure to turn off all unnecessary lights and equipment (e.g. computers, peripherals, photocopiers, laboratory apparatus).

Thank you for your cooperation, and Happy Holidays!
