The project to overhaul the Guy-Metro (GM) Building has recently reached a milestone: Demolition is now complete on the south and east walls of the building and the new exterior walls will start going up, to the delight of building occupants.

Once the new exterior is complete on the south and east walls, likely in July, work to replace the west and north walls will begin. Workers have already begun to install protective scaffolding in front of the retail spaces on the street level of the building.

While those walls are replaced, the bus stops on Guy Street will be moved south but remain on the same block to allow adequate space for the crane that will remove old panels and replace them with the new pieces. The bus stops will resume their regular locations for the fourth and final phase, when the north wall will be replaced.

On Monday, May 9, the egress between the GM and the Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex (EV) was restored. On Thursday, May 12, scaffolding was installed over the parking garage and loading bay to allow for the installation of the panels directly above.

The week of May 16, workers will be installing studs from which the new exterior panels will hang. Late May, work will resume in the lobby.
