An article in the Globe and Mail profiles the three finalists for the 15th annual RBC Canadian Painting Competition. Among the finalists is Nathaniel Hurtubise, a graduate student in the Faculty of Fine Arts, for his oil painting “Until the latter fire shall heat the deep.”

The Toronto Star announces that the Sobey Art Award has named its five regional finalists. Among the finalists is Mark Clintberg, a PhD candidate in art history. Also named is Pascal Grandmaison, whose creation for the Guy-Metro building lobby will be unveiled on Tuesday.

Canadian Interuniversity Sport announced that student-athletes who will represent Canada in synchronized swimming at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia. Among them is Lisa Nealon, a Concordia student, who will be the only team member competing in a solo event: Boxscore.

Space Ref Canada announces that Space Concordia’s Cubesat satellite is one of six satellites that was selected for the European Space Agency’s “Fly Your Satellite” program. The Cubesat may be launched in the latter half of 2014. A similar announcement appears in The Ottawa Citizen.

Émilie Chartrand, a student in the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, was awarded the Prix excelle science du ministère de l’enseignement supérieur, de la recherche, de la science et de la technologie valued at $2,000. The award was given at the 70th gala national du concours Chapeau, les filles!: Le Lézard.

The Montreal Gazette features an article on Nowrooz Syed, a grade four student at Westmount Park elementary school, who wrote to the Gazette asking whether he could help the newspaper cover the Formula 1 race. While that wasn’t possible, Infiniti Canada helped Nowrooz and his two brothers attend the practice sessions at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The article quotes Nowrooz’s brother, Nazmus Syed, who is a student in the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment.

Le Journal de Montréal mentions that beginning this evening and running until June 28 the graduating students of the Faculty of Fine Arts will be exhibiting their art works at the Faculty of Fine Arts Gallery and VAV gallery.

Estrie Plus features an article on the art collective IMPAIR who painted a mural at Triolet secondary school. IMPAIR involves young artists between the ages of 22 to 27 and some are students in the Faculty of Fine Arts.

The Suburban reports that the CLSC Rene Cassin Clinic would no longer accept new walk-ins. A Concordia student, Kaitlyn Breaker, expresses her anger at its decision. 

A. R. Mehrabian, a PhD candidate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, will be presenting at the Control and Automation Conference in Birmingham, UK on June 5: IET.tv Technology.
