Concordia students come first in the space race

An undergraduate team, from the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, have won the Canadian Satellite Design Challenge for their innovative satellite design. Concordia’s team will have their satellite launched into orbit as early as Spring 2013: The Montreal Gazette, Le Journal de Québec, Le Journal de Montréal, TVA Nouvelles, Yahoo Canada Finance, Money News, The University of Victoria, The West Island Suburban and TMCNet.

La Presse interviews Nicholas Sweet, the leader of Concordia’s winning team, about the competition and winning design. This will be the first time Québec students will launch a satellite into orbit. CBC Home Run also interviewed Sweet yesterday about the satellite (no link). Sweet will also be on The Ric and Suzanne Show on CJAD today at 12:45 p.m.

Gregory Gibson and Mehdi Sabzalian, two members of the Space Concordia team, discussed the satellite on Pas de midi sans info (interview starts at 10 minutes and 20 seconds), a Radio-Canada première chaîne podcast, on Monday, October 8. Gibson was also interviewed by Anne-Marie Yvon from Radio-Canada International on Tuesday, October 9: RCI.

Le Journal de Québec writes about the Space Concordia team which won the Canadian Satellite Design Challenge. The article is reprised in: 24 Heures and Le Journal de Montréal. RCI (audio clip, interview starts at 14 minutes and 40 seconds) interviewed Gregory Gibson about the satellite design and the team’s win.

Space.com published an article about the CubeSat, which will monitor anomaly radiation that encircles the Earth. The article is reprised in Daily Me and Softpedia. Macleans on Campus, Space Ref Canada and Techvibes also mentions the win for Concordia’s engineering team.
